Edgemere Drive-In

The Edgemere Drive-In was opened on April 29, 1955 with Van Heflin in “Battle Cry” & Mark Stevens in “Cry Vengeance”. It was operated by Peter Maroni & Daytz Theatre Enterprises Corp. It had a capacity for 300-cars. It was closed in 2000, but reopened in 2002. It had an increased capacity for 1,000 cars. It finally closed in 2004, screening the Disney animation feature “Home on the Range”.

U.S. 20 & Lake St, Shrewsbury, MA 01545

The above address will map accurately to the location of the drive-in, which was on the south side of US 20.

The address for this Drive-in is 204 Hartford Turnpike, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.

All ramps and the screen foundation are still visible.

should be listed as demolished. all that remains is a marquee next to an empty field. please update.

1000 cars. Was for sale in 1999. Closed in 2000, reopened in 2002. Plans for a strip mall and housing on the site.

This drive-in was one of the few locations anywhere that installed 70MM machines. There were 4 machines in the booth. I do not know if they ever ran a 70MM print. One of the projectionists was Jerry Turtoro who told me that at one time he had all 4 machines working but running 35MM. I was in the Springfield union and knew some the Worcester operators.

The housing and strip mall have just been approved. It’s official, the Edgemere is being redeveloped. The groundbreaking is slated for this summer.
